Khurda Cricket Association (KCA) ousted Bhubaneswar Cricket Club (BCC) by two wickets in the opening match of the 1st GCA Cup State Level Cricket Tournament at Gadakana in Bhubaneswar today.
East Coast Railway Sports Association president D K Samantaray inaugurated the tournament, which is being organised by Greens Cricket Academy.
The organisers, belonging the village Gadakana have been striving to promote sports in their area by conducting a quality cricket tournament for over a decade.
But now they are struggling to continue their work because of lack of a ground. The venue where they had been conducting the tournament was taken over by East Coast Railway for a proposed cricekt stadium.
Neither the Railway nor the State Government has not provided a place for the local club to conduct their annual tournament. They are now asked to pay a rent of Rs 10,000 per day to use the ground, which was their own a few years ago !
But the villagers have not stopped. They are now using their own football field to conduct the cricket tournament rather in a big way.
Brief scores: BCC 131/10 in 33.3 overs (P Kodlikar 37) lost to KCA 132/8 in 33.4 overs (AD Bhatta 30).
